Nov 25, 1883. J. Shaffer, buried in February died at Washington House, Morris, of pneumonia, age 65. Buried in New Cemetery.
Note: During his last moments J. Shaffer was asked if he wished to see a priest, and he answered that he did not. I could find noone to testily to his catholicity and after which testimony I did not judge of sufficient importance to admit the remains into the church. The remains were taken to the Lutheran church, and buried in the New Cemetery.
